March Fitness #6: Perseverance

Several weeks ago, I was listening to a speach entitled "Throw and Go." She reminded me of the scripture in Hebrews : "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." (12:1)

Because the Word of God can be used in every area of your life, I took this time to apply it to health and fitness....and the struggle that it comes with.  There are only a handful of people in this world who actually enjoy and look forward to working out.  These are the same people who have never had an unused gym membership or "forgot to pack" their workout clothes.

Then, there are people, like me, who are internally forced to have a strongly worded conversation...with themselves...about working out and eating right. Running vs. TV...Weight Training vs. Sleeping...Brownies vs. Bananas....Hamburger vs. Salad....Menchies vs. Ice Water....and so on. It never ends.

"...let us THROW off EVERYTHING that hinders and the SIN that so easily ENTANGLES."

Wow. Powerful words.

When I think about the burden of guilt that comes with not eating right and not working out, I think of this portion in Hebrews. How great it would be throw off that burden and feel the freedom to do the right things in regards to health and fitness. To feel the freedom to do the right things in LIFE.

Getting wrapped up in the craziness and laziness of this world can make us feel “entangled”, trapped, and weighed down.  Can you imagine how it would feel to be free of all burdens that are currently trapping you and preventing you from pursuing joy?

How easy it would be to "run with perseverance" when there is nothing to hold you down.

This is my prayer as I work at achieving health and fitness goals...that God will show me the many burdens that are weighing me down.  I want to be able to throw them down....and RUN!!
